Elizabeth Scro has studied ballet and modern dance for over 25 years. Her early training was in the Royal Academy of Dance method of ballet instruction under direct supervision of Doris Jacoby and Sally Topham. Before going off to school, Elizabeth participated in formal examinations given by the Royal Academy. Her high marks earned her the privilege to become a full member of the Royal Academy of Dance. Miss Scro graduated high school from the Walnut Hill School of Performing Arts in Natick, Massachusetts which she attended on scholarship. While there she studied under the direct supervision of Michael Owen, former pricipal dancer at American Ballet Theater. Her instructors at Walnut Hill also included Tamara King and Samuel Kurkjian, of Ballet West and the Boston Ballet. While at Walnut Hill she also had the opportunity to study throughout the years with instructors and dancers with the Boston Ballet. Elizabeth studied for a summer in Yorkshire, England with the National Ballet and at the Princeton Ballet School. Elizabeth also spent two summers at Royal Academy of Dance Summer Intensive Workshops. After graduating, she went on to dance as an apprentice with the American Repertory Ballet in Princeton, NJ. While dancing with American Repertory Ballet, Miss Scro performed in many ballet performances throughout the state of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. These included roles in the ballets Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream and the Nutcracker. She then decided to return to school and received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance and Arts Management at the Richard Stockton College of NJ, where she was an Adjunct Professor in ballet and modern dance for several years. She has also taught ballet classes at Georgian Court University. Ms. Scro has been teaching at Ocean County College's Kids On Campus program for several years, where she developed the Summer Ballet Camp for children.
Elizabeth has a true passion for dance and the arts and is committed to promoting the arts in our community.She has provided free programs for several community organizations and is generous in donating dance instruction to various organizations such as PTO's and other local community events. |
LAURENCE BOUEIL ~ MODERN DANCE
Laurence Boueil has been studying ballet and modern dance for 19 years. As a child, she studied under the Royal Academy of Dance method later to pass the formal examinations given by the Royal Academy of Dance. She attended the Princeton Ballet School Summer Intensive and received a full scholarship to the Governor’s School of the Arts for Dance in 2003. Miss Boueil earned a BFA in dance and a BA in French translation from Montclair State University. During her time there, she has had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Maxine Steinman, Nancy Lushington, Joao Carvalho, JT Jenkins, Lonné Moretton among others. However, her classical training does not inhibit her talent for contemporary choreography. She has had the opportunity to choreograph numerous pieces for Montclair’s main stage performances; one piece which she co-choreographed was chosen to be performed at the American College Dance Festival. Miss Boueil was the recipient of Montclair State University’s department of Theatre and Dance’s Choreographic Excellence Award in 2008.
JOAN SEELE-GOOLD ~ Theater Workshop/ Theater Arts
Joan Seele-Goold, is a "Music Together" and pre-school music teacher with a background in storytelling, theatre and mime. She has experience teaching summer theater camp and has worked with children of all ages. She is a favorite with Ocean County residents who have attended her "Kids at Heart" programs at the Ocean County Library.
DEVON MARKOWSKI ~ Irish Step
Devon began Irish Step Dancing at the age of 7. After receiving numerous awards at the local feisanna (competitions), she began to compete in both solo and ceili competitions on the championship level. Throughout her career she has placed on both the Regional and National levels, and qualified for and competed at the World Championships multiple times. Irish Dancing has taken her across America, as well as abroad to Ireland and Scotland. She most recently placed first at the Mid Atlantic Regional Oireachtas in Philadelphia (regional competition) and second at the North American Championships in Orlando, FL as part of a Dance Drama team.
In addition to competing, Devon has performed in shows throughout her career, including at Carnegie Hall with Frank Patterson, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, and the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. For the last 14 years, she has assisted in classes, teaching both ceili and solo dancing to children on every level from beginner to championship. She retired from solo competition after 18 years, and is currently pursuing her T.C.R.G. (Irish Dancing teacher’s certificate) in Ireland this May.
