Movement & Music for Toddlers~ age 2 Toddlers will develop an appreciation for rhythm, music and dance. It is a class designed to encourage creative movement through imagery and role play. Mommies, daddies, grandmas, grandpas, nannies, etc. all are welcome! We incorporate all sorts of fun props for the kids to use. With guidance children will learn about mobility, the power of imagination, and how the body can move several ways in space.30 min.
Tiny Dancers ~ age 3 In this age group we focus on basic motor skills and movement of the body. Little ones will develop an appreciation for music and rhythm through dance. It is a class designed to encourage creative movement through imagery and role play. To aid in this process we incorporate all sorts of fun props that will encourage your child to learn about body mobility, the power of imagination, and how the body can move several ways in a space. Creative Movement ~ age 4 In this age group we focus on dance and rhythm using gentle exercises that enable the child to discover musicality and creative movement. We will encourage students to use their imagination while doing fun exercises that will inspire them to dance and act. (45min)
Beginning Dance ~ age 5 In this age group we will concentrate on the beginnings of ballet such as skips, gallops, walks, plies, port de bras, and attention to clean and consistent footwork and continue to encourage use of imagination and mime in learning the art of dance.
Basically Ballet ~ age 6 We start with the floor exercises in which the student learns port de bras, footwork exercises, and different ways one can listen to and appreciate music. We learn positions of the feet and arms, free movement to help them relax the body when needed, and basic ballet exercises in the center to prepare them for simple transfer of weight and jumps. Dance imagery and expression are also an important element to this class.
Ballet Level 1 ~ This class is designed to teach a child proper body placement and carriage of the arms and head. Very minimal barre exercises are introduced. Centre work may include tendues and attention to other footwork, free movement, jumps, and traveling across the floor.
Ballet Level 2 ~Barre work is continued along with body placement and correct usage of the muscles in dance. Exercises in the centre also include development of strong footwork-using rises and releves to strengthen feet and ankles. We learn several ways to use our port de bras, preparation for turns, and traveling floor work. It is also important that a student learns how to feel and correctly utilize the center core of their body which is the basis of balance and strength in dance.
Ballet Level 3 ~At this level students should understand basics of ballet such as placement and alignment of the body, clean footwork, positions of arms and feet, and correct muscle use. With this knowledge we are able to introduce pirouettes, petite allegro (quick, small jumps), and across the floor combinations that combine several steps in one exercise. The training and expectations, both technical and behavioral, intensifies.
Ballet Level 4 ~ Students maintain their level of knowledge in ballet and are encouraged to incorporate artistic expression into their work. Strong and clean foot work is important in this level as many students are preparing for pointe work.
Ballet Level 5 ~ The student must be able to put together combinations with several different steps combined at the barre, in the centre, and traveling across the floor for jumps and turns. A true focus needs to be shown in order for the student to progress and work correctly in class.
Beginning Pointe Students in Level 5 ready to start pointe classes. will be allowed on pointe only at the discretion of the teacher. The teacher must be sure the child has strong ankles, feet, and center core. Pointe work takes a great deal of strength and focus and should only be taken by students willing to apply these concepts in class.
Elementary Ballet ~ Students in this level understand the technical and artistic elements of ballet and how they should be applied in class each day. The student should be able to work correctly and efficiently on the concepts of body placement, artistic expression, and personal growth. We want them to have fun but also feel challenged and that they are working towards improving and strengthening their art. Elementary Pointe ~ A student must have already taken pointe to enter this level. They should also be able to execute strong pointe work at the barre and exercises such as releves and echappes in the centre. Students are entered in this level only at the discretion of the teacher.
Intermediate Ballet ~ Students in this level understand the technical and artistic elements of ballet and how they should be applied in class each day. The student should be able to work correctly and efficiently on the concepts of body alignment, artistic expression, and personal growth. We want them to have fun but also feel challenged and that they are working towards improving and strengthening their art. **Students in this level should be taking class twice a week. Intermediate Pointe ~ We will continue pointe work at the barre and increase the number of steps and exercises in the centre. Steps introduced at this level are pirouettes, releves and piques on one leg, and across the floor combinations that combine several steps in one exercise. Students must take Intermediate Ballet at least twice a week in order to take this Pointe class. Students are entered in this level only at the discretion of the teacher.
Advanced Ballet ~ At this level students must show a love and dedication to their art. Much more intricate and challenging steps are introduced. There will be a great focus on really utilizing their center of balance as well as working very hard in class to achieve a consistent level of technical ability and artistic growth. Their understanding of vocabulary, alignment, proper use of muscles, and musicality will allow them to progress and nurture their classical ballet technique. **Students in this level should be taking class twice a week. Advanced Pointe ~ Students in this class are required to take pointe twice a week because it is important that the student maintain a strong and consistent level of pointe work.It is in the interest of the student that we do this in order to prevent injury. The pointe work at this level should be strong and fluid. Double pirouettes and hops on pointe are introduced along with more intricate steps and combinations. This is for a serious student who is willing to be challenged and who also wants to increase their physical strength and artistry and bring it to another level. Students will enter this class only at the discretion of the teacher. Student must take Advanced Ballet at least twice a week in order to take this Pointe class.
Beginning Teen Ballet ~ This class is designed for the beginning ballet student who has not had prior ballet training. It is suitable for those who want to begin ballet but are not ready to enter our school level divisions right when they start. The student may enter at one of our school levels based on their progress.
Modern Dance Beginning & Intermediate ~ This fun modern class is designed to develop a basic understanding of modern dance using different techniques (Graham, Limón, Horton, etc) emphasizing correct alignment and a basic technical foundation while focusing on the aspects of space, time, shape, movement dynamics, and musical expression. Students will learn in an enjoyable environment the study of level change, floor work, and weight shift while later progressing to a modern combination using the different techniques as well as original choreography to stimulating, motivatiDesigned for the dancers to build on from beginner through advanced. No experience is necessary, but for the serious dancer, it is recommended that jazz students also take ballet to ensure the best well-rounded dance training possible. Jazz technique incorporates various combinations and different styles. Emphasis will be placed on developing rhythmic awareness individual expression and the use of the body as rhythmic percussive instrument. Students will learn positions, turns, jumps, & leaps, as well as elements of dance conditioning. This class will promote the latest sounds in R&B, alternative rock, acoustic and pop music together the sounds of classical jazz, broadway, and much more! All movement will be modest & age appropriate.onal rhythms.
Junior Jazz ages 5~9"Junior Jazz" is an high-energy jazz curriculum and is a perfect compliment to our ballet program. The Jazz curriculum is based on the classical jazz dance technique, with influences incorporated from modern jazz, hip-hop, street jazz and Broadway styles. The Jazz curriculum develops flexibility, rhythm, extension, balance, speed and strong movement in dancers, preparing them for a lifetime of dancing.
Jazz/HipHop Fusion ~ Ages 10~12 This is a class that incorporates all genres of jazz, infusing hip hop into the mix. It incorporates many styles of Jazz technique including : Broadway, contemporyty, jazz funk& lyrical. We will be breaking,popping and locking! This program builds upon the movements and technique that students have already learned.
Jazz/HipHop Fusion ~ Teen/Adult Students will learn different jazz & hiphop techniques. We will use the latest sounds in R&B, alternative rock, acoustic and pop music to learn classical jazz, Broadway, contemporary, jazz funk and much more! Something new every week!
Theater Arts ~ Ages 5- 8 and Ages 9+ Fun course taught by a professional teacher with a background in the areas of music and drama .Performance skills will focus on acting, singing and mime! We will be exploring the art of storytelling and theatrical presentation; In addition, there will be theatre game and improvisational work. Your child will enjoy learning theater skills that will help them gain confidence and artistic ability.
Tiny Tappers ~ Age 4 Children will have fun learning basic tap steps emphasizing basic motor control and rhythmic concepts.Basic techniques are introduced and refined as the students learn coordination and body awareness. For those dancers taking tap or jazz in addition to creative movement, the programs serve to complement each other and reinforce skills learned in each class.
Junior Tap~ Age 5-10 The students will progressively build upon fundamental tap techniques arranged in combinations and performed as solo or duets. The Students take an active part in creating of the combinations. They will learn how to perform with energy and how to bring their own personality in each and every performance. The main goals are identifying, utilizing, and demonstrating tap terminology.The program will benefit ballet and jazz Students by improving the speed and articulation of their footwork.
Tap/Intermediate Age 11+ The Students at this level will continue to improve the quality of the rhythm. They will demonstrate ability to dance with equal emphasis on the musicality, level appropriate tap technique, posture, and sounds. Consistency of always being on Releve is expected at this level. The Tap Intermediate Students are expected to learn new combinations quickly and be able to execute sounds following verbal instruction only. This will require a very good level of understanding of the genre of tap dancing.The program will benefit ballet and jazz Students by improving the speed and articulation of their footwork.
